Saying Goodbye-Philippians Chapter 4:21-23
Goodbyes are so hard. Paul too had a hard time closing his letter. Just as you close your visit with friends our family and leave them with, “Give so and so our love,” “Give them a hug for me,” etc., Paul had his final words for the Philippians.
Read Philippians 4:21-23. How does Paul close his letter?
Paul truly had a deep love for his fellow brothers and sisters in Philippi and you can hear it through his last words to them.
We have concluded our study in the book of Philippians and now what? When we began our goal came from Philippians 3:10…To Know Him More. Read the following verses from Philippians and write down what Paul told the Philippians his goal was, the goal he wanted them to have and compare it to yours for 2013.
Now read James 1:22-25
“But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But the one who looks intently in to the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works—this person will be blessed in what he does.”
What kind of man is the one who hears and then does?
1) Looks intently into the perfect law of freedom
2) Perseveres in it
3) Not a forgetful hearer
4) Does good works
5) Blessed in what he does
Why is the hearer and doer blessed? Read John 12:26
Why does the Father honor him? Read Philippians 2:11b
If you have completed this study, have heard God speak to you, and do nothing with the knowledge of Christ given to you, then you are missing out on the rest of God’s promise and remain a hypocrite. However, if you have truly come into the presence of God, have come to To Know Him More, and have prayerfully begun to allow His character to infiltrate your inmost being, then may you be blessed and may glory and honor be given to God the Father. While our salvation does not ride on the good works we perform, our good works do reflect what we believe to be true about God as well as reflects our love for Him. While we may have completed a bible study, our journey has not ended. I pray you continue to daily spend time in prayer and the Word of God and that true knowledge, the kind that brings true intimacy between you and our Lord and Savior will reign down in your life and spill out onto those around you.
