The ever so common entitlement mentality that has infiltrated our society has not restrained itself to the world. Entitlement has penetrated the church, and cheap grace has become the recipient. As the pendulum swung from hellfire and brimstone preaching to love and mercy, the real sacrifice made on our behalf has been lost insulting the very Giver of the eternal life believers now possess.
“By this will of God, we have been sanctified through the offering of the blood of Jesus Christ once and for all…For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are sanctified…How much worse punishment do you think one will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God, regarded as profane the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and insulted the Spirit of grace?” Hebrews 10:10, 14, 29
There is nothing one has done or can do to receive the gift of salvation our Lord and Savior gave to us through His sacrifice on the cross. As we go through the sanctification process while on this earth, it is easy to fall into a complaining and grumbling spirit, instead of having a thankful heart. The old saying, “Don’t look a gift-horse in the mouth” comes to mind along with the seemingly all time Israelite grumblers and complainers. Our country will be celebrating Thanksgiving in just a few short weeks. May we not forget to give thanks for the greatest gift ever given and not profane or insult the Giver of the ultimate sacrifice.
Lord, help us to remember the sacrifice You paid for our salvation and give us grateful hearts as we continue through the sanctification process. Provide us with Your joy in the midst of the trials and may you receive the praise, glory, and honor due to Your name.
