Day 21: Education & Sanctification

When researching the current literacy rate in the United States, I was shocked to discover that the most recent statistics are from 2003!!  Even when looking at the world’s literacy rate, most countries have given updated information as recent as 2015.  Why would America not participate in these studies?  Is it because we already know how to read?  Or, is it because the enemy is trying to cover over one of his most useful weapons in keeping us from our sanctification!?!

Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.  As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance.  But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy.  1 Peter 1:13-16

Desiring to be a teacher as young as 5th grade, a former school teacher and now current homeschool parent, my heart has beat education for as long as I can remember.  I do not wish to get on a soap box when it comes to education.  America has been falling behind worldwide in the area of education for some time now.  However, I do believe one of the most fundamental problems we have as believers is the simple fact that we won’t read the Bible!!

if-satan-can-convince-you-reading-is-boring-and-not-useful-then-he-has-successfully-pulled-you-away-from-what-conforms-you-to-gods-image-gods-word-2We are satisfied to remain in our former ignorance where we are unchallenged and not required to change anything about our lives.  Disobeying our Father’s explicit instruction to ready our mind for action appears acceptable to our flesh.  But we can not be sanctified apart from God’s word.  If Satan can convince you reading is boring and not useful, then he has successfully pulled you away from what sanctifies you—God’s Word.

Playing opossum will not prepare us for the battle ahead nor will pleading ignorant go unpunished by the just God.  Whether you are a slow reader, fast reader, good reader, or bad, God wants you in His Word.

Oh Father, forgive us for being satisfied with our former ignorance.  Help us to be obedient to You.  Give us the desire to be holy as You are holy.  Ready our minds through Your word so that we will be able to take seriously the battle that is before us as we rest in the complete grace You have given us through Your Son Jesus Christ.
