Day 19: Cleanliness & Sanctification

Garage Sale Time!! That means we get to empty our garage of all the stuff that has been accumulating since the last time we had a garage sale. At the present moment, we can not walk through our garage. We have access to the washer and dryer and that is about it. No one likes to go into the garage and everyone in our home is ready to be free from the clutter so we can actually enjoy and utilize the things that are in the garage (that we can not see at the present moment) for our benefit. Our desire is to use the garage in the manner it was designed for us instead of walking by and closing the door so we don’t have to see it!!

img_7397Our hearts and lives are the same before God. God gave multiple and specific instructions to the Israelites before leading them into the promise land. In order for the Israelites to experience the fullness of God Himself and demonstrate to the nations around them that they were a people of the one and only true Living God, they would need to follow and obey these instructions. They would be blessed if they did but cursed if they did not obey them. One of the instructions pertains to the holiness required in the encampment during war time in order for God to be present.

For the LORD your God walks throughout your camp to protect you and deliver your enemies to you; so your encampments must be holy. He must not see anything improper among you or He will turn away from you. Deuteronomy 23:14

therefore-we-must-be-willing-to-clean-our-lives-of-anything-that-is-unholyWe are in a war! A war not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens (Ephesians 6:12). While we are being protected by God’s power (1 Peter 1:5) and God is our deliverer (Psalm 18:2), our encampments, our bodies must be free for God to walk around. If God can not move about in our homes without seeing things at are improper and unholy, then God will not walk with us. He is holy and can not and will not be in the midst of unholiness. Therefore, we must be willing to clean our lives of anything that is unholy.

One of the harder parts of having a garage sale is getting rid of things we really do not want to get rid of but know we should. These are the things we hold on to because they have sentimental value or of course, “we might need it some day.” God is the one who will recall to our mind His faithfulness to us in the past and He is the one that will provide us what we will need in the future.

Let us open our homes for fall cleaning today. As God walks around in our homes, may God not have to close the door to our homes because of the improper things He sees in our homes, but may He see Christ living in us and in so doing go before us in the battle!!
