Die 6-Dying to Doubting God

Can you just imagine the 40 days Jesus spent alone in the wilderness with His Father?  What they must have talked about, laughed about, cried about?  Can you just hear God whispering to His Son the words, “I am well pleased with you and will protect you.  You know everything about Me is true.”  What a blessed time for Father and Son to experience right before Jesus heads into the final years of the ministry God had sent Him to complete.  Since Satan was unsuccessful in getting Jesus to fall for the temptation of food, he tries the good ole tried and true method of twisting God’s word to place a seed of doubt in Christ’s mind regarding His Father.

“Then the Devil took Him to the holy city, had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, ‘If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: He will give His angels orders concerning you, and they will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ Jesus told him, ‘It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.’” Matthew 4:5-7

You see Satan did try to come up with a new trick.  No, he used the same method he did on Eve.  He took the word of God and tried to use it for his own advantage.  He caused Eve to doubt God’s goodness for her and he tried to cause Jesus to doubt God’s provision for Him.  While Satan was successful in bringing down the first Adam with his cunning ways, he was unsuccessful with the second Adam, Christ.  Christ overcame Satan with a full knowledge of scripture and used it to correct Satan.

Have you ever found yourself in the position of listening to Satan try to tell you God is not really who you think He is?

Jesus helps us to understand how to die to our doubts by immersing ourselves in the word of God.  So that when Satan does try to tell us differently we are prepared to counter those doubts with God’s word. Jesus set the example of Dying to Doubting God by answering it with Scripture. If you spend time humbly before God and seeking His truth, He will reveal it.

“I have treasured Your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.” Psalm 119: 11

Spend some time today meditating on the attributes of our Lord God and Savior and hiding them in your heart so that when Satan comes this week you are prepared to fight back.   Our God will never fail us!!!
