Receiving Blessings From A Giving Father

I lay in bed and look upon the picture.  Dawn is coming and the day about to begin.  Praises to the Holy God rise to my lips as I consider the beauty of His creation.  He alone is the creator of all things.

The scriptures I read ring praises to the God who desires to give blessings to His children.  An early phone call comes in for Scott.  A promising report that the project he has been working on is moving forward.

I enter the kitchen singing: “This is the day that the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”  I gather my books, computer, snacks, and drinks.  Today is library day.

More praise reports of answered prayers come in.  Reminders that God is for us and not against us, as He prepares my heart to receive this word from The Forgotten Blessing: Rediscovering the Transforming Power of Sanctification by Henry Holloman.

“God delights to bless His people.  He gives us these blessings through our growth in Christ:

        We develop Christlike character that expresses godly values and virtues.

        We triumph over sin, the world, the flesh, and the devil.

        We conquer life’s inevitable adversities and grow through them.

        We effectively serve the Lord, His people, and others for His glory.

        We can enjoy godliness with contentment.

        We receive God’s provisions for our physical needs.

        We have positive spiritual impact on our family, our friends, the church, and the world.

These blessings also benefit our sanctification much as a turbocharger benefits a car.  The engine’s exhaust powers the turbocharger and the turbocharger greatly boosts the engine’s power.  So when you accelerate your sanctification, you boost your blessings, and in turn they boost your sanctification.  This win-win cycle between spiritual growth and spiritual blessings should encourage us to grow more in Christ.” (Holloman, 11)

With all the praise and focus on the blessings God desires to give to His children, I was struggling.  Why would I struggle with such great news and the God who is the giver of good gifts?

I found myself struggling because of all the false doctrines of the name it and claim it movement.  My firm conviction to steer so clear of that false doctrine had moved me towards unbelief in God as the Father who desires to bless His children.

I rejoiced in the truth but still did not recognize the significance of it until I began to walk in praising God with what I thought He was laying on my heart to write.  It was then that He brought to mind Matthew 6:33 and reconciled His Word to man’s word.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.”  Matthew 6:33

That’s it.  The win-win cycle between spiritual growth and spiritual blessings is in seeking God and His righteousness first.

The win is knowing God and seeking His face.  My life verse:

“I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the LORD and seeking Him in His temple.” Psalm 27:4

The blessing He has for His children is Himself above all else.  Then, all other blessings follow.

The blessing of His Son, Christ Jesus, first.  Then the spiritual blessings as co-heirs of Christ.

The blessing of giving us good gifts beyond anything we could ever ask or imagine.

This is the God we serve.  Reminders that as we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, all these things will be added unto us.  God is great.  God is good.

Overcome with the goodness of our Lord and Savior, let us praise the Lord together today through His Word in Revelation.

Holy, holy, holy,

Lord God, the Almighty,

who was, who is, and who is coming.

Our Lord and God,

You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power,

because You have created all things,

and because of Your will they exist and were created.

You are worthy to take the scroll and to open it’s seals,

because You slaughtered,

and You redeemed people for God by Your blood from every tribe

and language and people and nation.

You made them a kingdom and priests to our God,

and they will reign on the earth.

The Lamb who was slaughtered is worthy to receive power and riches

and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!

Blessing and honor and glory and dominion

to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!

Amen!

Salvation belongs to our God,

who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!

Amen!

Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and

honor and power and strength be to our God forever and ever.

Amen!

Revelation 4:8, 11; Revelation 5:9-10, 5:12-14; Revelation 7:10-12

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him all creatures here below;

Praise Him above the heavenly hosts;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Amen!

Accept God’s blessings today.  He is Holy and worthy to be praised.
