Here it is, day two of the new year.  It is the day most begin trying to acclimate back to the real world after being on break and out of their usual routine.  It is this week where the reality that another year has passed and an unknown awaits yet again. And for some, including myself, it is a reminder that I don’t have to have everything lined up just right to begin.

In fact, yesterday morning I found myself searching for a journal to write down my thoughts, prayers, and verses to start the year.  The problem was I didn’t have one!!  Panic began to set in when I realized I did not have anything to start the year off  “correctly.”  However, as the day went on, God gently reminded me it is not whether I have a new, clean, unused journal to write in, but the fact that I am writing and coming to Him with all my cares, thoughts, praises, and petitions.

This year does not have to begin at the beginning.  We can start where we left off.  In fact, when I awoke this morning and pulled a journal I started last year with only a few pages written, I had to smile.  What God had me write the very beginning of last year, is right where He had me at the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018.  God is sovereign and oh so loving!

However, the enemy would have us stall out on the littlest of things.  Let us not give in to the enemy but stand fast on the Word of God.  If you have already found yourself stuck, remember these things:

His mercies are new every morning.  Lamentations 3:22-24

We don’t have to wait until January 1, 2019, to begin again.  We can start right now!!  The false belief that we are already behind is a lie.  Every morning is new in Christ.  Therefore, every morning is a fresh start, and God is ready to meet with us right where we are.

His grace is sufficient.  2 Corinthians 12:9

Our most significant accomplishments this year will not be those we have achieved in our strength and willpower.  Instead, it will be the things God has given us His grace as well as the power to complete.  We do not have to strive in our strength but rest in His.  I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.  Philippians 4:13  This brings us to the final reminder when we find ourselves beginning in the not so beginning.

Press On!! Philippians 3:13b

Father God, thank you for being so patient with us.  Thank You for showing us in such small ways Your sovereignty.  Thank you for the joy and blessing of Your new mercies every day.  We give you praise for the grace and strength You enable us with to carry out the purposes and plans you have for us this year.  We pray and ask for your mercy and grace to press on when the feelings of not doing things correctly or in the right timing begin to overcome us.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
