One of the latest fades in the Christian community is the slogan, All I Need is Jesus and Coffee, Jesus and Football, Jesus and Oils, and the list goes on. I, too, have jumped on the bandwagon with my own Jesus and Coffee kitchen towel. But is that what we need?
This morning I awoke to the aroma of cinnamon coffee brewing in the kitchen and the anticipation of a sweet cinnamon roll from Panera Bread. Most mornings this is not significant, but it is unique this morning because our church has just completed our annual two week period of prayer and fasting and the smell of a two week long missed aroma was delightful. However, I also awoke with the following verses on my mind:
So rid yourself of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander. Like newborn infants, desire pure spiritual milk, so that you may grow by it for your salvation, since you have tasted that the Lord is good. 1 Peter 2:1-3
During our prayer time together last night, as I was thinking about how delicious the coffee and cinnamon roll would be tasting this morning, the Lord showed me how good it has been to taste Him these last two weeks. The Lord urged me and those around me praying not to allow our time of prayer and fasting to cease but to continue to pursue Him with great anticipation each day as we seek to grow in our salvation. Jesus Himself is the Bread of Life and the Living Water. We don’t need Jesus and anything else. We just need Jesus and more Jesus.
How about you? What have you been adding to Jesus lately? May today be a day of forsaking all others and as a dear friend of mine says, put on your Jesus. Give Me Jesus
Taste and see that the LORD is good. How happy is the man who takes refuge in Him! Psalm 34:8
