She found herself crying out before God as she walked through the sanctuary.
“What is the barrier?”
“Why can we never seem to break through to the victory Christ as already given through His death on the cross?”
“Why the utter failure when rebuking the enemy and renouncing strongholds over our lives, loved ones, and the world?”
Crossing over to the baptism the words whisper across her lips,
“Buried with Christ in baptism? Why can we not walk in the newness of life He has given us?”
Another circle through the sanctuary between the rows of empty chairs. Tears stream down as she grabs another tissue.
“Why can’t we walk in the Light?”
As a strong gust of cold air makes its way over the yard on a mild March day, so the soft, firm answer comes flooding over her soul.
You are content to stay in the shadow of your past sin. I have delivered you from your sin, and I am here in the light longing for you to join me, enjoy the fullness I have for you and testify to the world the only true light that saves is through My Son, Christ Jesus. Instead, you are content to look at the Light instead of being in the Light. You would rather sit and believe the lie that you are living the abundant life all the while basking in the darkness of unconfessed sin.
My power cannot share itself with darkness. Not even the shadows. So while you cry out in rebuking the enemy, you sit in his shadows and wonder why you have no power. My dear child, renounce the hold the shadow of your past sin has on you by confessing the idols you still love.
See the sin that is still keeping you in the shadow by looking at the real light of My Son, Jesus Christ who came into the world to save you.
You can not seek for the power to fight against powers and principalities and not be willing to be serious in accepting the correcting, teaching, rebuking, and discipline I give through My Word.
Maybe you have felt the same way. The wall never seems to be torn down. There is always a barrier. Perhaps you too struggle with living in the light of God’s presence instead of the shadows of your past sins. Our fellow brother, John, Christ’s beloved disciple reminds us confession must come first before calling on the power and blood of Christ to break strongholds and rebuke the enemy.
“Now this is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him. If we say, ‘We have fellowship with Him,’ yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth. But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say, ‘We have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say, ‘We don’t have any sin,’ we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” 1 John 1:5-10
So the question today becomes, Are we sitting under the shadows of our past sin of shame, guilt, and condemnation, or have we confessed our sins and are now walking in the light under the shadow of God’s protection, refuge, and strength?
Christ, Himself, overcame the shadows of temptation and sin through His Word. So, as a gift to you and a reminder to myself, I created four simple verse cards for all of us as a way to combat the enemy of the shadows of past sin. May we place these in areas around our homes, cars, or workplaces where the shadows of past sin seem to be more overwhelming to us. Take these cards and place them in those areas so that the shadows of past sin can be replaced with the truth of God’s forgiveness and OVERshadow the lies of the enemy in our lives. Click here for your FREE Verse Cards and may you be blessed and the shadow of mercy wash over you and lift you into His light.
