Today is one of those mornings where I am just reading along in the Bible and then Bam!, insignificant the multitudes of times I have read it, and today it jumps off the page…

On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrifice the Passover lamb, His disciples asked Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare the Passover so You may eat it?

So He sent two of His disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a water jug will meet you.  Follow him.  Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the guest room for Me to eat the Passover with My disciples?”  He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready.  Make the preparations for us there.’

So the disciples went out, entered the city, and found it just as He and told them, and they prepared the Passover.  Mark 14:12-16

The Question

“Where do You want us to go and prepare the Passover so You may eat it?”

Disciples, who had been following Christ for the past 3 years, are finally comprehending what it means to follow Christ.  Instead of seeking the position they will have when they get to heaven, or where the bread and fish will come from to feed the crowds, they have turned their hearts to Christ and His will and concerns.  Instead of just choosing a location and setting up the Passover, which they obviously knew how to do and could have done it in their own strength, they chose to ask Christ for His direction.  Not only are they asking for His direction, but the motive behind their asking is to serve and minister to Christ.

The Answer

Oh what faithfulness the Lord gives to them of His desire to lead them.  Jesus proceeds to give them very detailed instruction as to where to go, what they will see (v13), what they should say (v14), and what they should do (v15).  Instead of analyzing what Christ has just spoken to them, the disciples hear the answer to their question and respond with obedience.  They do not keep questioning as they have clearly been given an answer.  They do not try to persuade Christ to just use the house that is nearby for the passover so they don’t have to go so far.  They just trusted and obeyed.

The Response

The Disciples Go: “So the disciples went out…(v16).”

The Disciples Find: “…[everything] just as Jesus told them (v16).

The Disciples Obey: “…and they prepared the Passover (v16).”

Stepping out in faith, the disciples experienced the Lord’s Will exactly as He said it would happen.  What joy must have come to their hearts as they walked in perfect obedience doing and saying what Christ gave them to do and say.  Is this not what Christ demonstrated for us in His relationship with the Father?

Help me Lord, to ask Your will, hear Your answer, and respond rightly as You go before, behind, and all around me today.

  1. Amen! Yes indeed it is so hard to wait upon the Lord when things aren’t happening fast enough. But until we learn that it is all about Him, we are going to exhaust ourselves. Like the old hymn says “To trust and obey, for theres no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey” AMEN we must heed that Scripture as well. I just recently started blogging as a means to encourage others in Christ. I want to invite you to check out my blogs and if interested to follow me back. I believe that it is important to support others as we are all trying to build up His Kingdom. Keep up the great work for Him:)
