Bible Study with the Haitians

Tuesday was a full day with seeing the school children again, watching the well being fixed, visiting and praying over Pastor Franz and his wife, and preparing for the discovery bible study that evening.

Before the team had their linner (lunch and dinner served around 2:00 or 3:00 every day) we headed to Pastor Franz’s house to visit with him and his wife.  It was a blessed time as we were able to encourage and pray for the family.  The two have been married for two years and have had trouble having a baby.  Jordiana has been pregnant three times and has miscarried each time.  Please pray for them as they seek to serve and lead out in the church God has called them to serve, while at the same time increasing their faith to provide a child for them.  The Lord laid on my heart the story of Elkanah and his wife Hannah found in 1 Samuel 1:1-28.  After reading part of the story the team gathered around them and prayed over them.  The spirit of God fell on that home and in each of our hearts that hour.

Tuesday evening came quickly and Pastor Franz was ready to begin.  After he clearly communicated how the bible study was going to be done, he broke them into groups.  There were five groups of ten and then our American group with Leon.  Since Pastor Franz had already read the scripture passage once I began our group with the second reading of the passage and then we all closed our eyes for the third reading.  It was at the end of the reading when Toby got to the part in Philippians 2 where it says, “so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow–of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth–and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is LOrd, to the glory of God the Father” that my soul began to melt.  It was at that precise moment that various Haitian groups were getting to the part of the study where their sheets read, Chanson.  Without any projectors or song sheets. Each group began to sing out  to our Lord.  It was such an overwhelming time I barely heard the words Toby was speaking as they were being lived out in song by our fellow Haitian believers.  The bible study continued and the Lord was glorified.  Pastor Franz thanked us for brining the bible study to them and that he would be using it at least once a month with his congregation as they all seek to study God’s word more.

“If then there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, sharing the same feelings, focusing on one goal.  Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but humility consider others as more important than yourselves.  Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage.  Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men.  And when He had come as a man in His external form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death–even to death on a cross.  For this reason God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow–of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth–and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:1-11
