What an amazing year. I always enjoy taking time to reflect back over the year as I put away calendars and read all the activities participated in by our family. It is also a time I enjoy remembering how God revealed Himself in new ways to me as I prayerfully anticipate the work He desires to do in me in 2013.
Last year, the Lord led me to focus on the book of Philippians with the key passage being Philippians 3:10-12
“My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead. Not that I have already reached the goal or am already fully mature, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus.”
Words cannot describe the intimate times I had with the Lord this past year as I deliberately spent time truly trying to seek to KNOW Him. Part of that experience has found itself in somewhat of a bible study form that is slowly being posted to Faith Steps. My prayer for others this year is to taste and see for themselves the goodness of the Lord and to embrace the challenge of immersing oneself in God’s word. My husband timely reminded me this morning of the difference between knowing about someone or something and truly knowing as he shared from A. W. Tozer’s book God’s Pursuit of Man:
“In religion more than in any other field of human experience a sharp distinction must always be made between knowing about and knowing. The distinction is the same as between knowing about food and actually eating it. A man can die of starvation knowing all about bread, and a man can remain spiritually dead while knowing all the historic facts of Christianity.”
As we enter into another year of our Lord, may we cast aside all desire and effort to just know about God and truly ask God to give us a hunger and thirst to KNOW Him. Feel free to work through the Philippians study To Know Him More or choose your own bible reading plan. However the Lord leads you, be faithful to spend time with Him and share it with others.
This year the Lord has led me to 1 and 2 Peter as He is placing a burden on my heart to be better prepared for His return through prayer, love and action. I look forward to meeting with Him and seeing what wondrous works He has in store. As a fellow temporary resident here on this earth, join me as we walk together in grace while stepping out in faith for 2013.
“Now the end of all things is near; therefore, be serious and disciplined for prayer. Above all, maintain an intense love for each other, since love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:7-8
